Summer FUN Starts at the Tinley Park-Park District!

Tinley Park, Illinois: The temperatures are rising, the sunlight is dazzling and the parks are alive with activity! Here are some of the highlights of what’s coming up! Saturday, June 5 White Water Canyon Water Park opens at 12:00 p.m. (11:30 a.m. for those with a membership). The park is open until 8:00 p.m. Daily entrance price for Park District resident nonmembers is $9. Non-resident, non-member daily fee is $18. The Vogt Visual Arts Center Art Show and Sale is Saturday, June 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Stroll the grounds see artwork from local and regional artists available to purchase. Be sure to stop in the gallery for ‘A Feast for the Eyes! At the gazebo, you can dance to the music of Joe Orzoco from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and The Dancing Noodles from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The annual Kids Fishing Derby is June 19 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Centennial Park lake. Grab your poles and pals for this catch-and-release fishing derby. Prizes awarded in each age category for largest fish and most fish caught. Fishing Connection and Anglers Outlet, both located in Tinley Park, generously
donated the bait! Don’t miss the free giveaways and games. The Derby takes place rain or shine! Advance registration is $5 for Park District residents and $7 for non-residents. Day of fees are $10 for Park District residents and $13 for non-residents. Register for the appropriate age category: 2 to 6, 7 to 10, 11 to 13 or 14 to 16. On June 24, at 7:00 p.m., the 2021 Thursdays in the Park concert and movie series kicks off with music by Rick Lindy & The Wild Ones. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to The Band Shell Sponsored by Republic Bank to enjoy the retro rock music and balmy summer evening! The Band Shell is located on the east side of Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center, 8125 W. 171st Street.

The Park District’s July 4th celebration begins at 8:00 a.m. with the Stars & Stripes 5K run/walk. Registration is open for this event now at tinleyparkdistrict.org, or at the Bettenhausen Recreation Center. Tinley Junction Mini-Golf and Batting Cages will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., with light refreshments and snacks available for purchase. From 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Libido Funk Circus will provide musical entertainment that appeals to every age with energy, showmanship and audience interaction. Get ready to dance! Then stay for the southwest suburbs’ most spectacular fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. The Stars & Stripes Race, Tinley Junction Mini-Golf, music and fireworks all happen at McCarthy Park, 16801 S. 80th Avenue.
