Tinley Park-Park District Makes a Difference at the Holidays

Tinley Park, Illinois:
Everyone knows that Tinley Park-Park District brings the community fun, affordable programs, leagues and events throughout the year. The District is adding a charitable component as well during the holiday season of giving.

Once again, the District has collection boxes for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation (POTCF), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, located at Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center and Tinley Fitness, 8125 W. 171st Street. Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being accepted through December 9. All the donations will be distributed to children and teens fighting cancer by the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. The Foundation supports more than 16,100 children each month who are diagnosed with cancer and treated at one of many hospitals nationwide. In November, the 66th Treasure Chest program opened in Indiana. Because each cancer patient typically visits the clinic multiple times per month, their services actually support young cancer patients upwards of 20,000 times a month in 21 states. For more information on POTCF, visit their website at www.treasurechest.org.

Also benefitting the POTCF, on December 17, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, Tinley Fitness is hosting the 3rd Annual Holiday Zumbathon in the gymnasium at Bettenhausen Rec Center. This charity event is open to the public and the entry fee is a $5 gift card for teens receiving cancer treatments. Some ideas include
Dunkin Donuts, Target, Walmart, McDonald’s, GameStop, Best Buy, and other fast food and retail chains. Event organizers are hoping to surpass last year’s event in both participation and donations. You can register in advance at Tinley Fitness, 8125 W. 171st Street. Please bring your gift card donation when you register. Event day registration is also accepted.

Finally, the Park District is participating in the Orland Township Highway Department Holiday Lights recycling program. We are accepting broken holiday light strings at the Bettenhausen Recreation Center through January 4, 2023. For more information, please contact Orland Township Highway Department at 708-403-5148.

Finally, as the end of the year approaches the staff at Tinley Park-Park District wants to express our thanks to all of our members, program participants and athletes for their support. It is a privilege to serve you each season. We wish you all a joyous season with your family and friends and look forward to sharing a great 2023!
